The Listening Program
![]() Did
you know that listening to a series of high quality audio CDs of
specially recorded music 15 or 30 minutes a day can train auditory
skills needed to effectively listen, learn and communicate?
The Listening Program (TLP) is music based sound stimulation intervention building on the theory and practice developed by Dr Alfred Tomatis TLP helps the listener to process sounds across the full auditory spectrum from 20 – 20 000Hz and stimulates the auditory pathways in the brain, improving processing. Listening to the CDs exercises the tiny muscles in the middle ear and makes them better able to amplify soft sounds and prevent loud noise from damaging the inner ear. The vestibular system permits us to sense movement, gravity and posture. A close relationship exists between the auditory system and the vestibular system and by stimulating one there is also an effect on the other. TLP can help improve the integration and organisation of the sensori-motor system allowing the listener to become more comfortable in her body and to respond and communicate more effectively. Many listeners find that their hypersensitivity to sound is reduced because stimulation assists the nervous system to adjust sensory input. Listeners no longer have to protect themselves from interfering noise allowing them to better attend, focus and communicate.
